The Dirties follows two high school friends as they collaborate on a film project about taking revenge on their tormentors and fellow classmates which they've nicknamed “The Dirties”. As their film evolves, and their friendship faces it's own unique challenges, it becomes apparent that one of the two friends has taken the notion of revenge to the next level.
As much as I hate to write a poor review on an independent film where talent and potential is so blatant, I'm going to shed light on the film's shortcomings as well as it's successes. The acting and writing was impeccable. The fluidity was almost so realistic, it hindered the film in it's entirety. As odd of a concept as that is, it hurts the film in the way that so much time is spent in character building to the circumstances which the film's premise hinges upon, that it becomes almost less powerful when the graphic closing scenes take place. On the cinematography end their were some scenes that lost their ability to enhance plot progression due to non pertinent character interaction.
Would I suggest watching this film? Probably not. Do I expect great things from Director Matt Johnson? YES. Don't stop Matt, this proved you have the match... You just need the gasoline.
